# Vitran tracking

> **In short:** A Vitran shipment can be tracked on Vitran Quick Track with the 8-digit ProBill or with your own PO, BOL or pickup reference. M³ Tracker runs that lookup for you on every Vitran load, on a schedule, and reads the scans carefully: an “arrived” scan at a terminal is in transit, not delivered.

Vitran Express is a national Canadian LTL carrier with a dense Ontario and Québec network and linehaul to Western Canada. Its Quick Track page accepts four document types, which is convenient for brokers who do not always have the carrier’s ProBill at hand. M³ Tracker uses the same page, so whichever reference you entered on the bill works.

## Quick facts

- **Based in:** Toronto, ON
- **Coverage:** LTL across Canada, from Ontario and Québec to Western Canada.
- **References you can track:** Vitran ProBill number (8 digits) (87214044); your PO number; your BOL number; the pickup reference
- **Carrier tracking page:** https://www.vitran.com/quicktrack.aspx
- **How M³ Tracker gets the status:** Automated portal lookup — Tracked automatically today

## How do you track a Vitran shipment?

1. Find the carrier reference on the bill of lading or the pickup confirmation. Any of these works: Vitran ProBill number (8 digits) (e.g. 87214044); your PO number; your BOL number; the pickup reference.
2. Open Vitran’s tracking page, enter the reference and read the latest scan.
3. Repeat for every load, every day, for every carrier you book with — or let M³ Tracker do it.

## How does M³ Tracker track Vitran automatically?

Vitran publishes tracking on a web portal but offers no API, so M³ Tracker reads the portal the way your coordinator would: a headless browser enters the Vitran ProBill number (8 digits), one request per shipment per cycle with backoff, and the result is normalized into the same status timeline as every other carrier. Refreshed on a schedule during business hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern on business days).

- Your team sees every carrier in one dashboard, with the expected delivery date and an alert the moment it slips.
- Your customer gets a live tracking link with no login, and can subscribe to SMS updates from it.
- Status changes are logged with a timestamp, so “where is it?” has an answer before anyone asks.

## What do Vitran statuses mean?

Vitran statuses are mapped to M³ Tracker’s own buckets (booked, picked up, in transit, delivered, plus delayed and cancelled when reported), so your dashboard reads the same across carriers. A load is only marked delivered on an explicit delivery status, never on “arrived at terminal”.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does M³ Tracker track Vitran shipments automatically?

Yes. Vitran is tracked automatically today. Add the reference once and the status updates on its own.

### Which number do I need to track a Vitran shipment?

Any of these works: Vitran ProBill number (8 digits) (e.g. 87214044); your PO number; your BOL number; the pickup reference.

### Can I track a Vitran shipment with a PO or BOL instead of the ProBill?

Yes. Vitran Quick Track accepts the ProBill, a PO number, a BOL number or a pickup reference, and M³ Tracker accepts the same four. The ProBill is the most reliable because it is unique to the shipment.

### Why did a Vitran “arrived” scan not show as delivered?

Because an arrival scan at a Vitran terminal means the freight reached a cross-dock, not the receiver. M³ Tracker only marks a Vitran load delivered on an explicit delivery scan, which avoids telling a customer their freight arrived while it is still on a dock.

### How often is a Vitran status updated in M³ Tracker?

On a schedule during business hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern on business days, and on demand with the Refresh button. Each change is timestamped, and your customers can receive it by SMS and on their tracking link.
